ABSTRACT
The article offers information on the financial performance of steel mill operators in the U.S. for the first quarter of 2008. Middletown, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. has achieved a five percent increase in average price of steel in 2008 over the previous year. Alcoa Inc.'s earnings were affected by higher input and energy costs and a weaker dollar. Metals USA Inc. president Lourenço Gonçalves revealed that his company only benefited a sales revenue of $26.4 million.
