The article reports on the performance and market conditions of metal industries in the U.S. for the first-quarter of 2008. It notes the market's weaknesses due to high prices of metal products, however, the industry's largest service center cited that the conditions were better than expected for all distributors. Lourenço Gonçalves of Metals USA Inc. revealed a first-quarter shipment increase of 2.4 percent and sales revenues of 5.7 percent higher than the previous year.
