People Management;5/15/2008, Vol. 14 Issue 10, p8
The article highlights the lecture of Geraldine Grainger, head of learning and development at John Lewis, at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's (CIPD) HR and the Role of Line Managers conference. According to Grainger, appraisals and line manager responsibilities at John Lewis were radically overhauled after a culture of paternalism allowed widespread poor staff performance. She said appraisal forms had been adapted to focus largely on behaviours.
