ABSTRACT
The article recalls the Wounded Knee Massacre in South Dakota on December 29, 1890 spurred from the conflict between the U.S. 7th Cavalry and the Lakota Sioux under chief Big Foot. The 7th Cavalry brought the group from its Cheyenne River camp to the Pine Ridge reservation. The massacre came after Colonel James W. Forsyth ordered a search of the Lakotas when some of them refused to turn over their weapons. Several accounts from survived Lakotas and Captain Edwin S. Godfrey about the event were also discussed.
