ABSTRACT
An encyclopedia entry for agent is presented. The task of the booking agent is to arrange performances, concerts and tours for popular music performers. The agent serves as a link between the artist or his/her manager and local promoters. During the mid-nineteenth century, the agent's task in booking appearances by touring minstrel troupes or vocal groups was often carried out by the manager of the act.
