The article focuses on sculptures found on doors of cathedrals in Italy and France. It examines the sculpture on the doors of the basilica of S. Marco in Venice, Italy and discusses their themes of rustic life. The depiction of work and country life in medieval art is explored, and the Portal Maggiore at the basilica is mentioned. The portrayal of various trades in a cyclical format, referred to as the Trades cycle, is also analyzed.
