ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance of the manner in which Pope Benedict XVI addressed sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church during his visit to the U.S. from April 15 to 20, 2008. It is mentioned that the pope talked about the scandal publicly during his flight over on the papal plane, two Masses and a meeting with bishops. The pope also met privately with some victims of sexual abuse by priests. According to Father Gavin Vaverek, it is significant that the Catholic Church understands that abuse itself is only part of the problem.
