ABSTRACT
The article reports on the study conducted by D. Wilkie and colleagues on ferns and genetics in the U.S. Previously, the use of homosporous ferns in genetic experimentation has been very limited but there has been a revival of interest in ferns as a genetic tools. Researchers used homosporous ferns in genetic experimentation and they have capitalized on free-living haploid generation and homothalic nature of life cycle in studying the expression of genes in both the gametophye and sporophyte. Result reveals that these plants can be used in studying the genetic phenomena which have been inaccessible in other vascular plants.
