ABSTRACT
This article considers the nature of the challenge of climate change and argues about the wholesale reorientation of human legal and political systems that will be necessary to meet the challenge. Concern about climate change has spread rapidly, to become a mainstream political issue in many countries. From an Earth-centric perspective, in order to deal with climate change and other environmental issues, human societies must restructure their systems of governance, basing them on a cosmology, or understanding of reality, that sees the primary role of the human as being to play a mutually beneficial role within the Earth community.
