ABSTRACT
The article focuses on various generations of mobile telephones. The first generation (1G) of these telephones appeared in the 1980s and was known as the Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) in the U.S. The system used frequency modulation (FM) in 30 kHz bands and a frequency-division duplexing scheme in the 800 to 900 MHz range. Digital telecommunication helped in the development of several second-generation (2G) cellular telephone systems. The IS-54/IS-136 time-division multiple access (TDMA) standard was used in these systems.
