ABSTRACT
The article explores two topics discussed in the book "Slouching Towards Gomorrah: Modern Liberalism and American Decline," by Judge Robert H. Bork. These include the proper relationship between law, religion and mortality and the appropriateness for the government to punish adult consensual conduct that does not directly harm other people. It examines the views of former U.S. President James Madison on the nature of man and on the implications of that nature for the property role of government.
