ABSTRACT
The article examines how service learning can be linked to social networking sites such as MySpace and used in the formal classroom setting to facilitate learning and critical thinking. It explores how students can be encouraged to produce alternative media that have a radical educational impact. A key element of any activist effort to teach with and about alternative media that is mentioned in the article is to encourage the widespread development of critical media literacy, which is the ability to read the values and beliefs embedded in the knowledge that is circulated in the society.
