The article discusses the revitalization of grocery stores in response to recessions in the U.S. Hard economic times works well for a back-to-basics approach, and the center store should be a prime beneficiary, says Donald J. Stuart of Cannondale Associates, Inc. The National Restaurant Association says 54 percent of restaurants reported declining traffic in January. Most retailers think the center store should benefit from this trend. Bi-Lo's Tye Anthony says a weak economy, and even a recession, force customers out of restaurants.
