ABSTRACT
The article summarizes the discussions of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the basis for its decision not to recommend routine vaccination of children aged 2-10 years against meningococcal disease in 2008. The ACIP, however, still recommends routine vaccination against meningococcal disease for all persons aged 11-18 and 2-55 years who are at risk for the disease. Also noted is the approval by the Food and Drug Administration for the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine called MCV4.
