ABSTRACT
The article reports on the possibility of a swing toward rules-based underwriting to influence an underwriter's judgment in the U.S. The author stated that underwriting has been held to be both a science and an art, a truism affirmed by the imposing failure rate of right-brain-challenged underwriter wannabes. He added that according to the rules, the two risks may look alike but are quite different once they are underwritten.
