ABSTRACT
The article reports that 13 hospital workers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center have been fired for looking at the medical records of singer Britney Spears without a valid reason in early 2008. The breach happened after chief compliance officer Carole A. Klove sent a memo to all staff that prohibits them accessing medical records without a valid reason. Thus, the privacy breach causes concern for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
