ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the SUSE® Appliance Program launched by Novell to enable independent software vendors (ISV) to create appliances combining their applications with the SUSE Linux Enterprise platform in a single integrated package for end-customer deployment. Another Novell announcement is the beta release of SUSE Linux Enterprise JeOS, a minimized version of the SUSE Linux Enterprise platform that ISV can utilize as a platform for developing appliances. Al Gillen of IDC thinks that software appliances will play a significant role in the future of application deployments. Novell will collaborate with ISV, through the SUSE Appliance Program, to create the technology needed to deliver applications in appliance format.
