ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the budget deficit of Rhode Island for both fiscal 2008 and 2009. Reports reveal the state's budget deficit of $151 million for fiscal 2008 and $384 million for 2009. For this reason, Gov. Donald L. Carcieri presented a 2009 budget to the General Assembly that was 3.8% less than the previous year. He noted that the state has a spending problem and that the solution to budget difficulties is to control its spending.
