ABSTRACT
The article discusses various issues related to the Islamic democracy of Turkey. It is stated that the people of Turkey has been struggling with their identity and the role of Islam in public life. It is highlighted that the course of a controversy concerning headscarf, which is considered to be a new form of Islamic observance when it was introduced in Turkey in the 1980s, is an important measure of how the religion issue is evolving in Turkey.
