ABSTRACT
The article profiles Mary Crovatt Hambidge, an artist and the founder of Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences in Georgia. Hambidge is a weaver who embraced the art of ancient Greece in order to understand the complexities of her modern life. She believed that handweaving is a source of both spiritual and aesthetic fulfillments by working diligently with one's hand could one be connected to the past while countering the destructive forces of the machine age. She also tried her artistic self-concept by adapting and translating the visual forms and techniques of a culture by her own.
