ABSTRACT
The article presents information on common drugs of abuse and discusses their actions, signs of use and their short- and long-term effects. Early signs of alcohol use include prominent smell of alcohol on the breath, behavior changes; it depresses the central nervous system and decreases normal function of heart. Long-term effects include addiction, liver disease, loss of sexual function. Information about tobacco, marijuana, barbiturates and several other drugs of abuse is also offered.
