The article describes the tank battle between Israel and Syria during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Israeli defenders of the Golan Heights were in desperate plight on October 7 because they could only field about 40 operational tanks against some 500 Syrian tanks and other armored vehicles. Lieutenant Colonel Yosef Ben-Hanan's 13 tanks attacked the Syrian left, which prompted the Syrians to break off and withdraw.
