ABSTRACT
The article profiles David Mellor, chairman of the UK Telecommunications Academy (UKTA). The career moves he took to get where he is today is described. He started working in 1965, and was part of the last generation to go through the old-style apprenticeship scheme. As UKTA chairman, he creates a co-ordinated message from both the fixed and mobile operators in Great Britain to the rest of the world through international bodies such as the ITU, the UN body responsible for telecommunications.
