ABSTRACT
The article summarizes the progress made toward measles mortality reduction and elimination in the Eastern Mediterranean Region from 1997-2007. EMR countries reduced the cases of measles related death by approximately 75% from 2000 to 2007. MCV1 vaccine is administered at age 9 months in 55% of the 22 EMR countries and at age 10-15 months in the remaining 45%. Other efforts to reduce measles mortality include supplementary immunization activities and surveillance activities.
