ABSTRACT
The article discusses the decision of baseball teams in the Major League Baseball (MLB) to increase their recruitment of baseball players from Asia to attract Asian viewers in the U.S. and abroad. Capitalizing on the popularity of imports like Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui and Daisuke Matsuzaka, U.S. teams are signing a flood of Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean players. MLB also launched an expanded program to train and recruit players in Asia aimed at sparking TV and merchandise sales in the region.
