ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received complaints of acute pancreatitis among patients with type 2 diabetes who have been administered with Byetta. Out of the 30 patients, 27 had one or more risk factors for acute pancreatitis, such as gallstones or alcohol use. Meanwhile, 6 patients had experienced pancreatitis symptoms and were doubled after increasing the dose of Byetta. As such, the FDA is asking Byetta's maker Amylin to add a warning about pancreatitis to the Precautions section of the drug's label.
