ABSTRACT
The article provides a fiscal outlook for Slovakia in 2008. Tax hikes are expected to help the Slovak government to keep its budget deficit well-below the 3.0 percent of GDP specified in the Maastricht convergence criteria. Business Monitor International (BMI) forecasts a 2.2 percent of GDP deficit for this year, but further improvement will be made more difficult by ongoing calls for higher government spending.
