ABSTRACT
The article reports that an estimated $4.2 billion could be earned by India by 2012 via the sale of carbon credits. This could be achieved if all the Indian projects that have received the host country approval from the government were to be approved by the United Nations (UN) as clean development mechanism (CDM) projects. A total of 753 projects have received approval from the Indian National CDM authority which would facilitate total investments of Rs 630 billion to such projects. The projects have the potential to generate some 421 million certified emission reduction (CEM) by 2012.
