The article looks at the restructuring of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 in the U.S. The standard on lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment was amended in the FMVSS in order to provide a more straightforward and logical presentation of the applicable regulatory requirements. A newly created Appendix C, which relocates figures addressing sealed beam headlamps, was added in the 49 CFR 564 Replaceable Light Source Information. Also cited are the response of industry associations to the amendments.
