ABSTRACT
The article outlines the plan of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to revise its regulations applicable to animals in HUD-assisted housing in the U.S. The agency proposed revising the legislations on animals in HUD-assisted housing including public housing serving the elderly and disabled families. The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) expressed its concern on the issue and submitted its comments on December 2007. It revealed that the legislation is problematic and to date, the term "service animal" has been defined as "animals with specialized training to assist the disabled for specific purposes."
