ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the probability that the Venezuela 5-year credit default swap (CDS) would continue to trade outside that of Argentina driven by the risk that Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez could scare investors with his response to the confrontation between Colombia and Ecuador. The CDS shot to an all-time high of 610 basis points (bps). It is believed that political risk will continue to undermine the relative performance of Venezuela.
