The article provides an overview of the trends in the broadband market in Eastern Europe, focusing on Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. It identifies the major drivers of market development and assesses the market potential in the medium term. The take-up of broadband services have been hampered for a long period by the high cost of asymmetric digital subscriber lines (ADSL) and cable modem services. It is expected that the broadband density in the region will reach 20% by 2011.
