The premature demise of a mine

High Country News;2/18/2008, Vol. 40 Issue 3, p15
The article focuses on the crisis faced by Constellation Copper Corp., the first copper mine in Lisbon Valley, Utah. In 2007, the company closed its mine due to processing and financial problems, which then laid off two-thirds of its workers. According to Michael Nelson, an associate professor in the College of Mines and Earth Sciences at the University of Utah, the failure of the mine is not just because of its processing, but rather an increase in numbers of new copper mine competitors. He adds that another problem was the international market price for copper, which was the primary problem with the company with no increase in mining output.
