ABSTRACT
The article reports that job growth and wage increases during 2007 never fully recovered from the 2001 recession, and are on their way down again. Wage increases also missed their earlier peaks in this business cycle. Both the Employment Cost Index and real weekly earnings data show steady declines, broken only by a blip in 2006 that produced a 1.8 percent increase in real earnings. The 2006 increase was far below the 2.6 percent rise that occurred in the previous peak reported in 1997.
