In this article, the author explores the importance of direct-store delivery (DSD) to the food industry in the U.S. The author highlights a report on DSD that will be published by the Grocery Manufactures Association. He observes that intense retail competition has made flawless DSD procedures more important than ever. In addition, the author indicates some DSD improvements that are important to the industry, including flexible receiving, automated check-in, price and data synchronization.
