Majority of the Veteran Affairs medical facility chief anesthesiologists responding to a Government Accountability Office study said they had to temporarily close operating rooms due to a shortage of certified registered nurse anesthetists. A survey of physicians showed that 29 percent said they had never been offered a position in a rural area.
