ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the implementation of healthcare information technology (HIT) for the U.S. healthcare system, which was discussed at a hearing in the U.S. Senate Budget Committee. Committee Chairman Kent Conrad of North Dakota cited several dismal metrics concerning U.S. healthcare. Valerie Melvin, director of human capital management information systems issues at the U.S. Government Accountability Office, stated that HIT may help improve the quality of healthcare and reduce medical errors.
