ABSTRACT
The article reports on the financial performance of rent-to-own merchant Rent-A-Center during the fourth quarter of 2007. The company suffered a $5.4 million net loss because of one-time charges for restructuring and a lawsuit settlement. The company's revenues rose 9.3% to $717 million due to the acquisition of rival Rent-Way in November 2006. Its adjusted diluted earnings per share, excluding the one-time charges, yielded $0.42 during the quarter.
