ABSTRACT
The article reports on the decision of the Wheeling, Illinois-based Wickes Furniture to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. According to the author, the company filed for bankruptcy after a failed attempt to get enough vendors to accept a proposal to defer payments on past-due debt until July 2009. The company is planning an auction of its assets for the end of February 2008. INSET: Wickes owes creditors more than $23M.
