The article focuses on the results of a survey on Internet use which was conducted by Burst Media. The survey found that more than three quarters of U.S. adult Internet users use the Internet as their primary source for health information. Researchers also found that of that population, more than one third investigated health topics online before seeing a medical professional, and that 43.5% researched online following a visit to a physician to become more informed. The survey found that the most popular health care information resources were commercial health care web sites and condition-specific web sites.
