ABSTRACT
The article explores the history and discusses the current state of jewelry and adornment in China. It is stated that a remarkable material account of feudal dynasties has been provided by jewelry, textiles and decorative objects. After the cultural revolution of the 1960s, jewelry and adornment had no place in Chinese society, and flowering plants were declared to be frivolous. The author notes that China is remaking itself after the evolving tradition of adornment vanished for almost three generations.
