ABSTRACT
The article reports on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) Suitability in Annuity Transactions Model Regulation for annuity writers in the U.S. The NAIC model, which is adopted by 35 states, makes insurers responsible for sales suitability and strengthens the financial documentation of existing and proposed annuity sales of firms. It is also expected to result to a more complete disclosure at the time of sale to help restore investors' confidence. INSET: The Ups and Downs of Indexed Annuities.
