ABSTRACT
The article presents the report of the U.S. Government Accountability Office on tax administration. Using case studies, the report identifies the compliance costs of existing information reporting, an approach for improving tax compliance. It also determines the kinds of third-party compliance costs that may result from the budget proposals and options for mitigating the costs. Finally, it determines Internal Revenue Service's ability to process and use additional information returns.
