ABSTRACT
The article looks at the issues surrounding the international benzene industry. Supply of coke oven light oil (COLO) is abundant because China accounts for 50% of global coke production and COLO contains 65% benzene and around 1% or more sulfur, which has to be reduced through hydrotreatment before it is suitable as a feedstock for benzene. The cost of hydrotreatment is hardly a big deal because of the increased demand for toluene for blending into gasoline.
