ABSTRACT
This article reports on the plan of Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide to reorganize its global marketing operations as of March 2000. Under the reorganization, Starwood will remove its North American marketing operations from its global marketing division, allowing for increased focus on the region. The move was led by Starwood's chief operating officer, Robert Cotter who wants to strengthen the North American operations. With the restructuring, North American sales and marketing with its human resources will function as a standalone unit along with four other geographic regions. Functions such as the loyalty building Starwood Preferred Guest program, Internet marketing, and customer-relationship database management will remain in a global division headed by Tad Smith, senior VP-e-commerce development.
