The article presents information on Widevine Technologies. The company came up with a way of encrypting and tracking video on the Internet back in 2000. When the technology bubble popped, the company focused on so-called closed network providers such as telephone, cable, and satellite. Now that the Internet TV bubble has started to inflate again, Widevine applies its technology to digital broadcasts and video-on-demand both on the web and closed networks. Unlike Apple and Microsoft's proprietary software that limits users to their own digital rights management regimes, Widevine's software works on different operating systems, formats, and devices.
