The article features Washington, D.C.-based GridPoint, a technology company included in "Red Herring's" top 100 list for 2007. Peter Corsell is the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company, which has 30 employees. Its key investors are Altira Group, Advantage Capital Partners, Goldman Sachs, and Standard Renewable Energy Group. GridPoint has designed a residential appliance with batteries for storing power produced by the electricity grid or alternative energy sources. The battery is a backup in case the lights go out and it also stores residual energy, which the system collects when prices are low and returns back to the grid, at a price, when they are high, saving customers 10 to 15 percent of their energy costs.
