ABSTRACT
Presents an article on the social implications of TexMex singer Selena for the queer community. It explores Selena's integration of disco and freestyle elements into her music and live performances. The author argues that Selena's innovative style allowed her to negotiate the boundaries of normative culture as a woman of color and facilitated her crossing of the literal boundary between the U.S. and Mexico. The appropriation of Selena's persona by the queer community is described.
