ABSTRACT
The article presents an instructional guide using the painting "November, Washington Square," by Edward Hopper in teaching about realistic portrayal of American city life in the middle of twentieth century to grades K-3 students. It aims to introduce students to the ways an artist interprets the urban environment. This will help students to describe the colors, shapes in the painting and express its mood as well as their personal perception of the whole art. The background of Hopper, instructional strategies of the lesson, student evaluation, and the painting are presented.
