ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the efforts of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on the improvement of data security. The Government Accountability Office (GAO), a congressional investigatory agency said that the VA has failed to implement the recommendations from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and that it has not assigned a chief information security officer. Robert Howard, the assistant secretary for information and technology disagrees and claims that the VA has made progress which includes 400 items in its action plan.
